Nyandeni Municipality Strengthens Consumer Awareness Libode
  • Consumer Rights and Education: The workshop aimed to educate residents about their rights as consumers and provide practical knowledge for making informed purchasing decisions.
  • Support for Entrepreneurs and Job Creation: Participants were informed about government programs and grants that support entrepreneurs, promoting economic growth and employment opportunities.
  • Engagement of Key Stakeholders: The event saw participation from various government departments, including environmental health, economic development, and traditional affairs, ensuring a comprehensive approach.

On 26 August 2025, the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, in partnership with Nyandeni Local Municipality, hosted a consumer awareness workshop at Mhlanga Traditional Council in Libode. Themed “The Right to Fair and Responsible Marketing and Food Safety Tips”, the event focused on educating residents about their rights as consumers and equipping them with practical knowledge to make better decisions.

The workshop ensured that community members are now more informed about the goods and services they purchase and are aware of the relevant government departments they can approach for support. This includes guidance on accessing grants designed to assist entrepreneurs in growing their businesses, ultimately contributing to job creation and economic development.

Key stakeholders in attendance included representatives from OR Tambo District Municipality’s Environmental Health unit, the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, and the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA).
