Nyandeni Local Municipality hosted Day 1 of the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Summit at the Hotel Savoy Conference Centre on 18 November 2025. The gathering brought together traditional leaders, government departments, and community partners to drive collaborative governance. The session focused on development challenges affecting traditional communities.
What Happened
The summit launched under the theme “Collaborative Governance for Sustainable Development.” Leaders met to align efforts, tackle service-delivery gaps, and support traditional authorities.
Furthermore, discussions centred on infrastructure needs, community wellbeing, and long-term development planning. Delegates emphasised stronger relationships between municipal structures and traditional leadership houses.
Official Response
Honourable Mayor B.V. Ndamase urged unity and stressed the power of working together.
“By joining hands, Nyandeni can become the community we all want,” he said. “When traditional leaders, government officials, community representatives, private sectors, and civil society unite, we achieve more.”
Key departments in attendance included the Department of Education, COGTA, Home Affairs, DEDEAT, and representatives of ex-mine workers.
Community Impact
This summit sets the tone for deeper cooperation across all structures. As a result, traditional communities can expect clearer development pathways and improved service coordination. Moreover, leaders anticipate better support for traditional councils as planning advances into the next sessions.
