On 5 November 2025, Nyandeni Local Municipality celebrated Children’s Week at St Barnabas Hospital. The programme focused on children’s rights and the need to create safe, caring spaces for every child.
What Happened
Municipal officials visited the hospital as part of the national celebration. They handed over children’s tables, chairs, scooters, dolls, toy cars, colouring books, and crayons. The items were donated to improve the children’s ward and make it more friendly and comfortable for young patients.
Hospital staff welcomed the gesture. They said the donation would help children feel relaxed during their stay. The municipality noted that the visit was part of its wider effort to support vulnerable children and strengthen child-friendly services.
Official Response
Municipal leaders called on families and communities to protect children at all times.
“Every child needs love, safety, and support, Children’s Week reminds us to place children at the centre of our work,” an official said.
The municipality also said it would continue promoting programmes that uplift children across Nyandeni.
Community Impact
The donation will brighten the ward and create a better healing environment. It will help children engage in play, which reduces stress and improves their emotional wellbeing. The campaign also raised awareness about children’s rights in homes, clinics, and community spaces. Officials said the initiative is a reminder that protecting children is a shared responsibility.
