Nyandeni Local Municipality held its Integrated Development Plan (IDP) Representative Forum today at the NLM Council Chambers, chaired by Mayor Cllr. B.V. Ndamase.
The gathering focused on reflecting on achievements from the 2025/26 financial year while also setting priorities for projects and programmes in the 2026/27 financial year. Various government departments and institutions presented updates on their work and future commitments.
SASSA reported on disaster relief support, including the donation of school uniforms to affected learners. They also emphasised the importance of social grants and who qualifies for assistance.
The Department of Agriculture shared progress in livestock development, including the construction of two shearing sheds at Ngolo and Zandukwana. They further handed over two trucks to Nkanunu Projects and Greenvines Co-op, and supplied 110 rams and 205 ewes across wards to boost wool production.
Home Affairs highlighted challenges with network connectivity in Ngqeleni and urged residents to collect their IDs, noting that unclaimed documents remain on their shelves. They also confirmed ongoing child registration drives at St. Barnabas and Canzibe hospitals.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) reminded communities of the importance of voter registration and awareness of their rights ahead of future elections. Meanwhile, SAPS announced a “Boy Child” launch at Bhekizulu Senior Secondary School, aimed at teaching boys self-awareness and positive behaviour.
Mayor Ndamase welcomed the contributions from stakeholders, noting that the IDP Forum plays a key role in aligning community needs with service delivery plans for the year ahead.
