Nyandeni Local Municipality delivered ten new houses to residents of Mtyu on 18 November 2025. The handover formed part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to improving living conditions in rural communities. One of the recipients, 59-year-old Nowundi Koyana, received a fully built home equipped for long-term use.
What Happened?
Nyandeni officials visited Mtyu to hand over ten completed houses to families who had been awaiting the units. Each home includes two bedrooms, a kitchen, a sitting room, a toilet, and a 5 000-litre water tank.
One of the proud beneficiaries, Mama Nowundi Koyana, expressed relief as she stepped into her new home. Residents noted that the contractor, widely known as Madiliva, delivered the structures on time and with strong workmanship.
The atmosphere in Mtyu was celebratory. Community members said this project “is not like the others,” pointing to a visible improvement in quality.

Official Response
Municipal leaders said the handover strengthens their service-delivery focus.
“We promised to return dignity to our people, and today we moved another step forward.”
The municipality also praised the contractor for meeting standards and ensuring families received safe and solid homes.
Additionally, the project team said more housing phases would follow as funding and assessments allow.
Community Impact
Families who received the houses said the new structures change their daily lives immediately. Access to water storage, proper rooms, and safe sanitation reduces pressure on households, especially older residents.
Locals also said the project builds trust between the community and the municipality. Many hope the success in Mtyu signals similar developments in neighbouring villages.
