The Ntabankulu Local Municipality has issued a statement rejecting false claims circulating on social media that the municipality is planning to use drums for people to cross the river at Dikidikini Bridge.
According to the municipality, these claims are not only false but also malicious, aiming to mislead the public and cause unnecessary confusion.
In reality, the municipality has taken concrete steps to address the issue. On October 29, 2024, Honourable Mayor Cllr Tsileng Sobuthongo, in partnership with the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) and the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD), handed over a contractor to begin construction of a R51 million bridge in Dikidikini.
This significant investment aims to provide a safe crossing point for the community and restore dignity to the people of Dikidikini. Interim measures are also in place to ensure residents have access to conventional crossing methods while construction is underway.
The municipality urges the public to disregard the false information and rely on official channels for updates on the project.
