The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) men in the Eastern Cape staged a united stand against Gender-Based Violence on 25 November 2025. Groups gathered in towns such as Mthatha, Lusikisiki, Matatiele, Gqeberha, East London, Bhisho, Makhanda, Humansdorp and Motherwell. They called for stronger action against abuse.
What Happened
NPA men across the province held solidarity events to show support for survivors of Gender-Based Violence. They used the gatherings to emphasize the struggles faced by women and children and to urge communities to report abuse.
Officials said the coordinated stance aims to raise awareness and encourage men to take responsibility for stopping violence at home and in their neighbourhoods.
Official Response
NPA representatives said they want to promote positive masculinity and challenge harmful behaviours. They urged men in all communities to speak out, intervene and support survivors.
The NPA also reaffirmed its commitment to prosecuting GBV cases and strengthening cooperation with community structures, social workers and local police.
Community Impact
The province-wide action created a visible show of unity. Residents in several towns joined the call, saying GBV remains one of the biggest issues in the Eastern Cape. Community leaders welcomed the NPA’s involvement and said it adds weight to the message. They also believe it encourages more men to take action against abuse.
