NORTH WEST MAN MAULED TO DEATH BY HIS OWN DOGS

Date:

Allegedly a 60-year-old male from Lichtenburg, North West was killed by his three dogs on Saturday afternoon 08 January 2023.

The deceased has been identified as Philemon Mulala, a former Zambian soccer star. His widow said, he loved his dogs dearly and never thought they would attack him.

“We loved the dogs; we never thought they would turn against us,” said Philemon’s wife.

North West police spokesperson Captain Sam Tselanyane said, an inquest docket has been officially opened regarding the incident.

“It is alleged that during a load-shedding, the wife of the deceased heard the dogs barking. However, she did not bother to go and check what was wrong, because their house is situated on a busy street and the dogs frequently barks on everyone passing by including vehicles,” explained Captain Tselanyane.

When the power was restored, the wife went to look for her husband as he was on the other side of the house. She found him lying motionless in the garden. The wife then contacted authorities.

The couple had two Staffie-pit bull cross dogs and the breed of the other dog is unknown. The SPCA removed the dogs from the home after the attack.
