A 42-year-old man accused of killing his wife and girlfriend in Ngobozana Administrative Area was found dead on Tuesday in Gqathula locality, roughly 10 kilometres outside Lusikisiki.
The suspect had been on the run after allegedly fatally shooting his 22-year-old girlfriend at a tavern in Chithwayo and later his 49-year-old wife at their home in Unity Park, Ngobozana, during the early hours of 5 August 2025. Police launched a manhunt after discovering the family vehicle abandoned not far from the scene.
Later on the day, residents of Gqathula alerted police to a lifeless body discovered in an open field. A 9mm pistol was found next to the man. Authorities have since confirmed the deceased was the suspect linked to the double homicide. Preliminary reports indicate the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, although the exact circumstances remain under investigation.
Lusikisiki SAPS has opened an inquest docket to determine the events leading up to the suspect’s death. Police continue to engage with the affected communities and urge residents to seek help in cases involving domestic conflict.
