R2.5m Paving Project Launched in Emalahleni

emalahleni – 27 October 2025: A contractor handover ceremony has confirmed the start of a R2.5 million paving project set for Wards 11 and 14. Officials say eight community members will work on the six-month development led by SLS Civils.

What Happened?

Acting Executive Mayor Councillor Nobantu Mcingwane outlined the project’s scope and the expected benefits for the two wards. Meanwhile, Mayor Councillor Nontombizanele Koni welcomed stakeholders and stressed the importance of smarter planning and government alignment.

The project forms part of local disaster recovery efforts and aims to improve road safety and mobility.

Official Response

“This project reflects government’s commitment to deliver faster and better services,” said Acting Executive Mayor Mcingwane.

Mayor Koni added that the DDM must ensure every intervention responds to real needs on the ground.

Community Impact

Residents welcomed the development. However, they want equal access to job opportunities linked to municipal projects. Municipal officials pledged to review recruitment practices to avoid exclusion.

Mayor T.D. Mafumbatha of the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality joined national leaders and dignitaries this morning at the O.R. Tambo Wreath-Laying Ceremony in Tamboville Cemetery. The event formed part of the annual O.R. Tambo Month celebrations, honouring the life and legacy of the liberation struggle icon.

The ceremony, themed “O.R. Tambo: Champion of Freedom, Architect of Global Solidarity,” paid tribute to one of South Africa’s most respected leaders. Participants gathered to reflect on Tambo’s courage, global influence, and his lifelong commitment to freedom and equality.
