The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) has unveiled a comprehensive Turnaround Plan during a strategic planning workshop led by Dr. Len Konar. The plan, presented this week, introduces key interventions to restore stability, strengthen governance, and accelerate service delivery for residents.
What Happened?
At the workshop, Dr Konar outlined seven major focus areas aimed at reshaping municipal operations. These include governance improvement, accelerated service delivery, financial management reforms, stronger policies and procedures, and a framework for monitoring and evaluation.
The interventions are designed to address pressing community concerns, from unreliable service delivery to the need for transparent financial practices.
Official Response
Municipal leaders committed to ensuring that the Turnaround Plan brings practical results. Speaking after the workshop, a senior municipal official said:
“This plan is about restoring confidence in the municipality. Our residents deserve efficient services and accountable leadership, and we are taking steps to deliver exactly that.”
The municipality emphasized that tracking progress publicly will be key to holding leaders accountable.
Community Impact
For residents, the Turnaround Plan promises faster responses to water, electricity, and sanitation challenges, as well as better oversight of public funds. Civic groups have welcomed the initiative, noting that trust between the municipality and the public can only be rebuilt through visible, measurable improvements.
Community members have also called for ongoing consultation to ensure the plan reflects residents’ needs at every stage.
