On 17 September 2025 Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Babalwa Lobishe chaired the municipality’s weekly Mayoral Committee (Mayco) meeting at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha . The session focused on the readiness of 2025/26 infrastructure projects, which will directly affect water, sanitation, housing, and road services across the Metro.

What Happened

The meeting brought together senior municipal leadership, including Acting City Manager Ted Pillay, Acting COO Adv. Lonwabo Ngoqo, CFO Jackson Ngcelwane, Mayco members, and top management.

A key presentation was delivered by Dr. William Obeng from the Office of the COO on “The State of Readiness of 2025/26 Infrastructure Projects funded by Conditional Grants.” The presentation outlined timelines and planning for critical service delivery rollouts.

Mayor Lobishe emphasised the importance of ensuring infrastructure projects translate into improved services for residents. Members of the committee engaged robustly, raising questions and offering input to strengthen project implementation.

“Our focus is to make sure these projects reach communities faster and improve living conditions,” the Mayor’s office said in a statement.
