32% of households in South Africa do not have access to a reliable service due to dilapidated infrastructure as well as lack of proper operations and maintenance of existing infrastructure, which results in disruptions and shortage of water supply.
Due to the lack of services mainly water and sanitation in Lusikisiki Lindile decided to have a mini plant with the intention to supply clean water to the communities.
Flagstaff-Born professional nurse and entrepreneur Lindile Ndayi comes from a disadvantaged family and describes himself as a family man who is blessed with four children, he later relocated to Lusikisiki due to employment opportunities.
During his studies, he identified a public gap in basic services like water and sanitation, particularly in Lusikisiki. The primary problem identified was mainly water and sanitation, he, therefore, decided to have a mini plant with the intention to supply clean water to the communities of Lusikisiki and its surrounding areas. “The main focus of the project is to supply the community with treated and purified water,” he explains.
After discovering that trucks that supply water in communities fetch water from dams, river streams, fountains and all unprotected water sources that are detrimental to health inspired him to come up with his own water and sanitation company R61 H2O.
“My vision is to supply continuous clean water that is free from any germs or any form of contamination,” he says. He adds that to empower the youth he will consider skills development for the marginalized youth, particularly in the Pondoland region.
My advice would be to advise people to believe in themselves, focus, be patient, passionate, and stick to their vision. Be somebody nobody thought you could be and be yourself, – he exclaims.
