Tuesday, 18 March 2025 – The Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) of Alfred Nzo District Municipality, led by Cllr. Sandile Sello, continued its oversight visit to municipal infrastructure projects in Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality. This initiative forms part of the committee’s mandate to ensure accountability and progress in service delivery.
The focal point of today’s visit was the Greater Mbizana Water Supply Scheme Phase 1B, located at Sicelo Bhani Hall in Ward 17, Mbizana. The project, valued at over R57.5 million, aims to improve access to clean water for local residents. The visit provided MPAC and members of the standing committees an opportunity to assess progress and address concerns related to the supply of water in the area.
Project Progress and Community Reception
The contractor has successfully established the site, and security personnel have been deployed to safeguard equipment and tools. While the project is advancing well, community members raised concerns about vandalism, which poses a challenge to its completion. Despite these setbacks, residents expressed optimism about the long-term benefits of the initiative.
During the engagement, municipal officials assured stakeholders that measures would be put in place to address security issues and enhance community involvement in protecting infrastructure projects.
Commitment to Service Delivery
Cllr. Sello reaffirmed MPAC’s commitment to ensuring that critical infrastructure projects are completed efficiently and meet the needs of the people. He emphasized that access to clean water remains a top priority for the municipality and urged communities to work together in safeguarding these developments.
The oversight visit will continue in the coming days as MPAC assesses additional water supply projects across the district. Further updates will be provided as the committee progresses with its evaluations.
