The Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) visited two major infrastructure projects in Kumkani Mhlontlo Local Municipality on 4 December 2025. The oversight inspections focused on the Nonyikila–Mbeza Access Road and Bridge in Ward 19 and the Ntibane–Mabheleni Access Road and Bridge in Ward 20.
Road Projects Aim to Restore Access and Improve Community Safety
Both projects carry significant social and economic value. The new roads and bridges will improve access to healthcare facilities, schools, and local markets. They will also reduce travel risks for residents, especially during rainy seasons when crossings become unsafe.
Community members have long called for better infrastructure. The projects are expected to boost movement, support local businesses, and restore dignity to rural households that rely on safe and reliable routes.
MPAC Oversight Ensures Accountability and Quality
MPAC said the visit was part of its responsibility to ensure that public funds are used correctly and that service delivery remains transparent. Committee members monitored construction progress, inspected quality, and engaged with project teams to identify challenges early.
The oversight process focuses on ensuring accountability in service delivery while checking construction standards and timelines. It also aims to identify obstacles early so they do not delay completion. MPAC works to protect the integrity of public funds and makes sure communities have a voice by engaging with them directly on site.
MPAC stated that these visits help strengthen governance and ensure that municipalities deliver projects that reflect community needs.
Commitment to Transparent and Responsive Leadership
The municipality said it remains committed to transparent development and responsive leadership. Officials emphasised that oversight visits bring leaders closer to residents and allow them to monitor progress directly on the ground.
