The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s SRAC Libraries Department hosted a Movember Outreach Program at the Despatch Library on 27 November 2025. The session focused on prostate cancer awareness, detection, and men’s mental health.
What Happened?
The outreach brought community members together for practical information on men’s health. Facilitators explained the risks linked to prostate cancer and stressed the life-saving value of early screening.
In addition, speakers emphasized mental health challenges that many men face but rarely discuss.
Attendees were encouraged to speak openly about stress, seek help when overwhelmed, and recognize early signs of emotional strain. Organizers reminded participants that mental health issues are common and treatable.
Why It Matters?
The initiative forms part of the municipality’s broader effort to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce stigma around men’s health. Officials said the goal is to empower men to prioritize both physical and emotional well-being.
The SRAC Libraries Department plans to continue similar community engagements throughout Nelson Mandela Bay.
