Nkululeko Athenkosi “Lekko The DJ” Ngwadla (26) is a young up coming DJ, music producer, music publisher, Multi-instrumentalist, Audio and sound engineer from Mount Ayliff, based in Durban. Who produce songs and his process is simple making songs based on his feelings at that moment, at times it might not be words but certain sounds.
Lekko The DJ graduated from Boston College, where he studied Sound Engineering (Digital Music Composition and Production) and he is aslo a graduate from KwaZulu-Natal United Music Industry Association where he studied Music Publishing and Music Business.
He hosted his first annual event (Roots Music Festival) last year December on the 18th, on the second festival which is planned for 2022 he wants to improve his budget, attendance, he is also planning to invite more musicians. In the next twelve months the DJ sees Alfred Nzo granting local and international creatives a platform to showcase their talents through;
- Playing
- Displaying their craft
- Doing interviews.
Black Coffee, Casper Nyovest, Kabza Da Small, DJ Maporisa and Master KG are the top five artists Nkululeko would like to book for the Roots Festival.
“It requires Budget, Proper planning, team work and publicity to put together a successful festival” he said
Nkululeko says he noticed that many artists are clueless in regards to the music industry especially on how the business side affects their craft, which is the reason why they end up being exploited. He went on and said this is why he opened his own company (Sub City Music And Media) which is both a recoding and entertainment company that’s offering;

- Hosting of music events
- and talent acquisition
To assist them with understanding different types of contracts and equip them with the knowledge that they actually need.
