The MK Party has called for stronger national action to protect the rights and dignity of persons living with disabilities. The appeal comes as South Africa honours the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
In its statement, the party said the day is a vital reminder of the country’s responsibility to ensure equal access, respect and meaningful participation for persons with disabilities across all communities.
Push for full participation
The party said South Africa must prioritise the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in the social and economic landscape.
It stressed that accessible communication including sign language interpreters and braille communicators must become standard in public institutions.
The MK Party added that fair employment opportunities should not be blocked by attitudes, bias or systemic barriers.
“Persons living with disabilities are capable contributors to our economy,” the statement noted.
Barriers to employment remain a key concern
The party urged government to intensify efforts to remove obstacles that make it hard for persons with disabilities to access and keep employment.
It warned that vulnerable groups must not be pushed out of education, training, or economic participation due to poor support systems.
Call for year-round commitment
The MK Party said recognition of persons with disabilities should not be limited to a single commemorative day.
It called for daily protection of their rights, greater autonomy and stronger inclusion in both the economic and social fabric of the country.
“True justice demands that no person is excluded,” the party said.
