Minister of Social Development, Nokuzola Sisisi Tolashe, attended the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) National Indaba held on 26–27 November 2025 at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre in Johannesburg. The event took place under the theme “Effective Regulation and Funding Through Digitisation.”
What Happened
The Indaba brought together government leaders, civil society organisations, NLC beneficiaries and regulatory bodies. Delegates explored the NLC’s strategic direction, governance reforms and advances in digital grant-funding systems.
Minister Tolashe joined stakeholders as they reflected on efforts to restore credibility within the NLC, strengthen governance structures and improve operational excellence.
Official Response
The NLC presented its digital transformation work, which aligns with the Department of Social Development’s modernisation drive. This includes the Online NPO Registration Platform, a system designed to improve transparency, simplify compliance and expand access for the NPO sector.
Department officials stressed the importance of collaboration between the NLC and the Department of Social Development. They said these partnerships help drive reforms and support better service delivery for communities.
Community Impact
The Indaba strengthened relations between government entities and organisations that depend on grant funding. Delegates discussed ways to ensure fairer, transparent and digitally driven funding processes.
Minister Tolashe’s presence reinforced the Department’s commitment to cooperative governance, improved accountability and constructive partnerships that support vulnerable communities.
