Minister for the Public Service and Administration, Mzamo Buthelezi has voiced firm support for the sixth Economic Governance School, taking place in Ghana. The programme, which runs from 16 to 20 June 2025, is a joint initiative of the National School of Government (South Africa), the National School of Government and the Kenya School of Government. It brings together high-level delegates, including legislators, executives, department heads, and academics from South Africa, Ghana, Liberia, and Kenya.
Delivered in three modules, the first is hosted in Accra, with upcoming sessions scheduled for South Africa in August and Kenya in October. The school aims to strengthen leadership and governance capabilities across the continent.
Participants will engage on issues such as strengthening oversight and leadership, improving economic governance, and preparing for a digitally driven future. The programme also focuses on addressing structural governance challenges that hinder inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Since its approval by Cabinet in 2020, the Economic Governance School has seen participation from over 150 senior public officials from South Africa and eight other African nations. Highlights include the 2023 bilateral sessions between South Africa and Kenya, and the 2024 collaboration with Zambia in Lusaka.
Minister Buthelezi emphasized the importance of such initiatives in advancing Africa’s development goals, particularly as nations work towards achieving Agenda 2030 and Agenda 2063.
