The Ministry in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities has welcomed the rapid arrest of a suspect linked to the brutal killing of two young women in Mamelodi East, Gauteng. The arrest follows a coordinated police operation that brought hope for justice to grieving families and the wider community.
What Happened
Two young women were murdered in Mamelodi East, sparking widespread outrage and calls for justice. The South African Police Service (SAPS) quickly arrested a suspect, which is a key breakthrough in the investigation. The tragedy has reignited national concern over the persistent scourge of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).
Official Response
Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga condemned the killings, describing them as “a senseless act of violence that has robbed our nation of young lives filled with promise.” She commended the SAPS for its rapid response and urged the courts to ensure swift justice.
“These heinous acts of violence against women cannot and will not be tolerated. Communities must work together with law enforcement to ensure that no perpetrator escapes accountability,” said Chikunga.
Community Impact
The Ministry called for collective action ahead of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign. “Justice must be served, and our nation must never grow numb to such cruelty,” Minister Chikunga said, extending condolences to the Moramaga family and friends.
