The King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality and Kumakane Mhlontlo Local Municipality held a Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) awareness programme on Friday 5 December in Ward 24. The event brought residents, traditional leaders, and officials together to address crime and social behaviour. It marked a renewed push for safer and more respectful communities.
What Happened
The programme focused on rebuilding values, strengthening families, and restoring accountability. Residents heard messages on discipline, compassion, and active community involvement. In addition, speakers highlighted the rise in violence affecting women and children.
Traditional leaders guided discussions on respect and collective responsibility. They urged younger residents to protect their families and safeguard local traditions.
“We want the community to live with love and tolerance.” municipal officials told the crowd.
Official Response
Municipal leaders stressed that the MRM aligns with their broader safety plan. They said the rise in crime demands firm action and deeper community partnerships. Meanwhile, the municipality promised more outreach programmes across rural wards.
Officials noted that the movement helps bridge families, schools, and leadership structures. As a result, they expect stronger prevention work and better support for victims.
Community Impact
Residents welcomed the programme and called for more regular engagements. Many said the discussions offered hope, especially for households dealing with violence and substance abuse. The campaign also reminded the community to protect children and support survivors.
Furthermore, local leaders believe the message will strengthen unity and rebuild trust across villages in the area.
