Men of different ages and community groups came together at Balfour Presbyterian Church in Balfour, Amathole District, on Thursday, 28 August 2025, to discuss strategies to fight Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) and other crimes.

The gathering was attended by SAPS management, Community Police Forum members, Men’s Movement representatives, various government departments, councillors, and the religious community.
Warrant Officer Andile Nojavu, coordinator of the initiative, said Imbizo Yamadoda provides a space for men to reflect, learn, and take responsibility in fighting crime. He emphasized that the event goes beyond dialogue, aiming to redefine manhood to encourage respect, accountability, and unity within homes and communities.
The event featured discussions on crime patterns related to GBVF, the impact of crime on the Balfour community, reasons why crimes are often unreported, and how cultural beliefs, substance abuse, poverty, and unemployment contribute to gender-based violence.
Colonel Thembisile Sonjani, representing Amathole District management, urged men to actively protect women and children and promote stability in every environment.
