The Agricultural Show gained momentum as Eastern Cape MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform, Nonceba Kontsiwe, held a walkabout through the stalls. The MEC visited smallholder farmers and emerging agri-enterprises to assess their work and hear their challenges.
What Happened
MEC Kontsiwe engaged directly with producers showcasing crops, livestock and agri-products. Her visit emphasized the province’s commitment to supporting rural and township-based farmers. She said government must help farmers access markets, finance and training to strengthen local food systems.
The MEC emphasised that agricultural development depends on active partnerships between government, farmers and agencies.
ECDC’s Role
The Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC) continues to play a key role in the revitalised agricultural show model. The agency supports:
- Access to commercial markets
- Tailored finance solutions
- Investment opportunities for small and emerging producers
ECDC officials said the focus remains on taking opportunities to places where they matter most, in rural and township communities.
Community Impact
The show creates space for farmers to promote their products, connect with buyers and build new partnerships. MEC Kontsiwe said the department remains committed to opening economic doors for producers who drive local food security.
