Eastern Cape MEC for Agriculture, Nonceba Kontsiwe, handed over a new spring water project to the Lower Titsana community in Ward 4. She also delivered ILIMA LOKULIMA farming inputs and industrial sewing machines to boost food production and grow local enterprises.
What Happened
The spring water system now delivers clean spring water to communal taps serving households, schools, and the local clinic. More than 200 households gained reliable water access, which will also strengthen food security through improved farming.
The project created 47 temporary jobs, offering immediate income for families while supporting broader development goals.
Official Response
MEC Kontsiwe praised the community’s involvement and highlighted the project’s long-term value.
“This investment goes beyond water access. It supports dignity, food production, and real economic opportunities,” she said.
She also oversaw the distribution of ILIMA LOKULIMA inputs—seedlings, fertilizer, and other resources—to 120 community members. In addition, 32 industrial sewing machines were handed over to beneficiaries across the district to uplift women-led and youth enterprises.
Community Impact
Residents welcomed the project, noting how the new water system will ease daily challenges and support local gardens. The farming inputs are expected to improve household food production, while the sewing machines offer new income streams for small businesses. SAPS and the Department of Health also provided mobile services on site, ensuring wider community support.
