The Mdantsane Thuthuzela Care Centre held a community activation at Mdantsane City Mall as part of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children. The outreach focused on raising awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) and ensuring that residents know how to access support services.
During the program, the team hosted a candle-light ceremony to honour survivors of GBV. The moment allowed the community to reflect, remember victims, and stand in solidarity with those affected. The ceremony also symbolized hope, healing and a shared commitment to ending violence in local communities.
Taking Support Services Directly to the Public
The activation aimed to bring essential information and GBV support closer to residents. By engaging people in busy public spaces such as malls and taxi ranks, the Mdantsane TCC encouraged reporting urgent, distributed educational material, and strengthened prevention efforts.
Staff members spoke to community members about the importance of recognizing abuse and seeking help immediately. In addition, the team emphasized available services and guided residents on where to report cases.
Thuthuzela Centers Offer Support Beyond Buffalo City
The Mdantsane Thuthuzela Care Centre emphasized that its services are open to all survivors—regardless of where they live. Anyone within and outside the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality can receive assistance at the center.
The TCC provides compassionate care, medical support, trauma counselling, case management and assistance throughout the justice process. Staff members said their goal is to ensure that every survivor receives dignified, confidential and comprehensive support.
