On 29 September 2025 the Mbhashe Local Municipality has taken a bold step to boost local economic development by handing over essential tools of trade to 14 Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) and cooperatives. The handover, held in Dutywa, forms part of the municipality’s SMME and Cooperative Funding Programme, designed to empower entrepreneurs, strengthen livelihoods, and uplift communities.

The event saw a diverse group of businesses, including Masikhulisane Madokisini, Matoz Enterprise, Gogolenyani Panel Beater, Afrizim Trading, Ingomso Tech Solutions, and Red Jay Mechanical Solutions, receive crucial equipment and tools to expand their operations.

Portfolio Head for Development Planning, councillor Nomvuyiso Mgedezi, described the initiative as a turning point for local development:
“This initiative marks a new chapter for local entrepreneurs and cooperatives. As Mbhashe Local Municipality, we are investing in our people, strengthening livelihoods, and creating opportunities for sustainable development.”

Beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation for the municipality’s intervention. Sinethemba Majaca, representing Red Jay Mechanical Solutions, said:“As self-employed individuals, we’re optimistic that the material will significantly contribute to generating income for us.”
The municipality emphasized that this programme is not a once-off gesture, but part of a long-term economic growth plan aligned with its Integrated Development Plan (IDP).
