The Mbhashe Beach Festival opened on 04 December with a coastal hike at Haven Beach in Elliotdale. Local leaders and tourism partners joined the trek to outline the area’s natural attractions and cultural experiences.
What Happened
The hike celebrated the official start of the festival’s tourism activities. The group explored the shoreline, forests and viewing points along the Haven Beach route. In addition, officials used the walk to showcase Mbhashe’s growing potential as a festive-season destination.
Council Speaker Babalwa Majavu joined the hike alongside Councilor Nomvuyiseko Mgedezi, Councilor Nosipho Ganda, Municipal Manager Mkhululi Nako, and Aspire CEO Avuyile Xabadiya.
Official Response
Majavu said the hike shows how Mbhashe can use nature and culture to draw more visitors. “People must see that Mbhashe is rich in beauty and history,” she said.
Mgedezi added that the festival strengthens local tourism initiatives ahead of the December peak. Officials noted that more activities will roll out throughout the week.

Residents expect the festival to boost small businesses, increase visitor numbers and create short-term jobs. Moreover, tourism operators say visibility during the festive season helps build long-term demand for coastal attractions like Haven Beach.
