Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality (WMMLM) hosted a certification ceremony on November 7, 2025, in partnership with Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM) and COGTA. More than 100 local wholesalers and retailers received certificates after completing a business training programme designed to empower small business owners across the region.
What Happened
At the ceremony, Mayor TD Mafumbatha officially handed over the certificates to over 100 small, medium, and micro enterprise (SMME) owners. The initiative celebrates a major step toward strengthening local economic development and promoting sustainable entrepreneurship.
Mr. Hlangabezo from WMMLM also announced the formation of a Business Reference Forum, a new support platform for entrepreneurs. Seven members were elected to serve on the forum:
- Vundla Siniko (Ward 19)
- Tobo Wineka (Ward 23)
- Goniwe Zanokhanyo (Ward 24)
- Gazula Anele (Ward 4)
- Makhenke Phila (Ward 20)
- Mabude Siyabonga (Ward 3)
- Mgcini Noloyiso (Ward 32)
The forum aims to provide ongoing information, mentorship, and networking opportunities for local business owners.
Official Response
Speaking at the event, Councilor P. Srhamza mentioned the importance of giving entrepreneurs the tools they need to thrive.
“Equipping small business owners with practical skills is key to improving operations and increasing profitability,” Srhamza said.
Councilor Makholosa expressed gratitude to all partners and participants, commending their dedication and teamwork.
“This collaboration shows what we can achieve when local government, district offices, and the community work together,” she added.
Community Impact
The training programme and new forum are expected to boost small business growth across WMMLM. Entrepreneurs now have a structured space to access guidance, share ideas, and tackle challenges collectively.
Municipal officials encouraged all business owners not yet registered in the local database to visit the LED Office to ensure inclusion in future opportunities.
