The Mayor of Matatiele Local Municipality, Cllr. Sonwabile Mngenela together with the Executive Committee Members joined by the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, MEC Xolile Nqatha, Matatiele LM Councillors and Management led a Mayoral Imbizo at Hillside Village in Ward 18, as part of the Integrated Public Service Month (IPSM) which is observed from the 31st of August to the 30th of September 2023 annually.
The Imbizo was aligned with the IPSM as guided by the results of a 2019 Joint Cabinet directive for the government to integrate its efforts to promote a culture of continuous improvement in public service delivery during the month of September.
Local government is a sphere of government that is responsible for coordinating government departments within the Matatiele jurisdiction to ensure that services are rendered effectively and efficiently. The day would not have been a success without providing government services to the people. SASSA: The agency registered about 20 people onto their system on the day. New applications for various grants were received. Department of Health, Maluti Sub-District: Headcount, 20. Dental screening to 15 people and the department rendered these services: HCT, HIV testing, Diabetes, and other health-related services. Social Development assisted 10 people.
Department of Labour & Employment: managed to assist 30 people who were enquiring about their pensions and other departmental-related services. The Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs, and Tourism also assisted people who wanted to register their businesses. Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform provided rabies vaccination for domestic animals.
 Resource mobilisation and strategic partnerships play a crucial role in ensuring the coordination of service delivery by all stakeholders, thus ensuring a better quality of life for the people of Matatiele. – said Mayor Mngenela.
The Imbizo was attended by members of the public from across 27 Wards of Matatiele Local Municipality interacting directly with Government leaders on matters that affect them on a daily basis.
