Matatiele Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr. Sonwabile Mngenela on Tuesday of the 25th of October 2022, launched and officially established the Matatiele Local Municipality Men’s Forum (MLMMF) in an event held at Gwala Park Community Hall. The Municipality has embarked on a mission to establish structures that will help curb the scourge of Gender Based Violence & Femicide in the Matatiele area.
“We want to build a GBVF free society” these were the words of community members (men) who attended the official launch of the Matatiele Men’s Forum.
In a statement issued earlier, it was stated that the Matatiele Local Municipality through the office of the Mayor is the champion of the Men’s Forum and will utilise the MLMMF as one of the structures that the Municipality has identified to assist in the fight against the scourge of GBVF. It is believed that the Matatiele LM has been identified as one of the Hotspots alongside, KwaZakhele, Nelson Mandela Metro & Butterworth’s Mnquma Local Municipality.
