What Happened
The IGR Forum brought together government departments, farmers, residents, and commercial entities. They discussed ongoing projects and reviewed performance for the previous quarter. A major issue on the agenda was the outstanding R234 million owed to the municipality.
The meeting focused on solutions to the debt challenge and the urgency of restoring the municipality’s financial health.
Official Response
Councillor Thembeka Dyantyi, who chaired the session on behalf of the Mayor, stressed the need for a united approach. “Departments must work together to address community needs. Collaboration is the only way to stabilise our finances and improve service delivery,” she said.
She added that resolving the debt owed by various entities is critical for sustaining municipal operations and improving long-term planning. The meeting took place under the theme “Building Better Matatiele Together”, emphasising teamwork and shared responsibility.
Community Impact
The outcomes of the forum are expected to guide decisions that affect water services, infrastructure, and other essential municipal functions. Residents stand to benefit from improved financial management and faster delivery of services once debt recovery plans take effect.
