The Executive Mayor of Joe Gqabi District Municipality, Nomvuyo Mposelwa, visited Ward 7 in Maletswai on 08 December. Her visit represented the official handover of the Maletswai Water Treatment Works Holding Dam Project. The project is valued at R47.8 million and forms part of the district’s long-term infrastructure plan.
Project to Boost Jobs and Local Economy
The project will create 25 jobs for local residents. These include opportunities for women, young people, persons with disabilities, and nearby SMMEs. A five-member Project Steering Committee and one Community Liaison Officer will support the work.
Construction will begin in December 2025. The project is expected to be completed by June 2027.
Call to Protect Public Infrastructure
Councillor Mposelwa encouraged residents to protect government projects. She urged community members to report vandalism, theft, or any criminal activity that may disrupt construction.
Contractor Introduced to the Community
The mayor also introduced Sikunye Consulting as the appointed contractor. The company will lead the delivery of the Water Treatment Works Holding Dam Project. This forms part of Joe Gqabi’s broader service delivery programme aimed at improving water access across the district.
