Chippa United head coach Luc Eymael has officially confirmed his departure from the club after just seven matches in charge. The Belgian mentor clarified that he was not fired, but had left the team on a friendly agreement with club chairman Chippa Mpengesi, ending his return to South African football.
What Happened?
Eymael joined Chippa United in August 2025, tasked with reviving the team’s Betway Premiership campaign. However, after seven matches — including a Carling Knockout last-16 defeat to Richards Bay — his side struggled to find consistency.
In league play, Chippa United collected only five points from six matches under his leadership, leaving the club bottom of the Betway Premiership log with just six points after 10 outings.
Despite the results, Eymael maintained that his time at the Port Elizabeth-based club was positive and respectful.
He cited fixtures against Marumo Gallants, Polokwane City, and Sekhukhune United as examples of strong performances that did not yield fair results.
Official Response
Neither Chippa Mpengesi nor the club has issued a formal statement, but insiders confirmed the decision was mutual and free of conflict. Eymael, known for his previous stints with Polokwane City and Free State Stars, leaves the club with gratitude and optimism for future opportunities.
A club official hinted that Chippa United’s management will soon announce a new head coach to guide the team through the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
Community Impact
Fans of the Chilli Boys expressed mixed emotions following the news. Some praised Eymael’s coaching approach and his efforts to stabilise the side, while others called for stronger results given the team’s league position.
Supporters on social media thanked him for his professionalism and wished him well in his next chapter, with many still hopeful that Chippa United can turn their season around.
