The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has tasked the police in the Malamulele region to work relentlessly with available resources to ensure the arrest of suspects involved in a mob-justice incident that left a 37-year-old male dead at Xigamani on Sunday.
According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, police swiftly responded after receiving a complaint about a mob justice incident in the Xigamani area; however, their efforts proved futile.
“While driving along Mphambo village, ten kilometres ahead to the crime scene, they were stopped by the community who showed them a lifeless body of a 37-year-old male victim inside a wheelbarrow with severe injuries on the forehead,” said Colonel Ledwaba.
“The members of the Emergency Medical Services were summoned to the scene and declared the victim dead on their arrival.
It was revealed to the police that the 37-year-old deceased had been assaulted by the mob after being allegedly accused of stealing electrical cables. The deceased was found at Mphambo village, ten kilometres away from Xigamani village, a few metres from the local clinic.
However, police have yet to determine how the deceased ended up nearly ten kilometres away from the scene.
