KwaNobuhle residents in Kariega have praised MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Xolile Nqatha, and SAPS for improving safety in the township. They voiced their appreciation during a Policing Accountability engagement held at Sizakele Kozi Community Hall on 19 November 2025. SAPS confirmed that serious crimes, including murder, have declined sharply over the past six months.
What Happened
The community welcomed the progress made through crime-prevention strategies rolled out in KwaNobuhle. SAPS reported a notable drop in serious offences, although burglary and robbery remain challenges.
The engagement brought together councillors, traditional leaders, SAPS members, religious leaders, CPFs, patrollers, and government officials. Stakeholders agreed that improved cooperation between residents and law-enforcement officers played a major role in the recent progress.
Official Response
Delivering the keynote address, MEC Nqatha thanked the community for supporting policing efforts but stressed the need to intensify the fight against crime. “We have made progress, but much more work lies ahead. Everyone must stay involved,” he said.
To strengthen community safety structures, MEC Nqatha handed over 50 two-way radios and 50 reflector jackets to CPFs and patrollers operating in the township.
Community Impact
Residents say the reduced crime levels have restored a sense of safety and confidence in the area. Stakeholders believe the new equipment will improve communication during patrols and help sustain the momentum against criminal activity.
