A shocking incident has left KwaBhaca residents on edge after police officers were robbed at gunpoint in Mount Frere on Monday, February 17, 2025. The incident occurred at around 22:30 when police stopped to search two African males at a four-way stop. However, the situation took a dire turn when the officers were pointed with a firearm by the two males.

The robbers managed to take two firearms and the officers’ cellphones before fleeing the scene. A vehicle and two cellphones were later found abandoned at Badibanise, not far from the town.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of residents in the area. As one resident asked, “How can we walk freely on KwaBhaca when even the police are victims of robbery?”

A case of attack on the police has been opened for investigation, but no arrests have been made yet. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation. Those with information can contact the SAPS CrimeStop number at 08600 10111 or report to the nearby police station.
