The King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Municipality held an Employee Health and Wellness Day to honour workers lost to HIV/AIDS and to promote healthier lifestyles among staff. The event took place under the Employee Health and Wellness Section of the Corporate Services Department, which is responsible for supporting the well-being of all KSD employees. Councillors and staff participated in the outdoor programme.
This quarter, the department introduced a new format. It included physical wellness games, fitness activities, and on-site health screenings. The aim was to improve team spirit, revive unity among employees, and boost workplace productivity. Organisers said the event also served as a tribute to fallen colleagues who contributed to the municipality’s work.
Outdoor screenings and fitness activities boost staff morale
Employees took part in a fun walk and run, group aerobics, and interactive indoor games. Health professionals offered screening services, including HIV testing, blood pressure checks, and general wellness assessments. The activities encouraged movement, teamwork, and open conversations about health.
Staff members said the programme helped them reconnect with one another outside office duties. Organisers added that creating a supportive work environment improves performance and reduces stress.
Municipal leaders emphasised the importance of regular health check-ups. They encouraged employees to use available support services and maintain healthy habits throughout the year.
Programme honours colleagues lost to HIV/AIDS
The event also honoured KSD employees who died due to HIV/AIDS. Officials said remembering their dedication strengthens the municipality’s commitment to health awareness. They added that wellness initiatives help reduce stigma and encourage early detection.
Games such as tug-of-war created excitement and drew strong participation from teams. Laughter and cheering filled the venue as employees supported one another.
Organisers plan to continue expanding the wellness programme. They hope to include more departments and build a culture of active living within the municipality.
