King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality met with Traditional Authorities in Ward 29 on Wednesday to strengthen their working relationship and address urgent service delivery concerns raised during recent community engagements. The session aimed to speed up interventions and improve coordination between the municipality and village leadership.
What Happened
The Public Participation Unit, led by the Ward Councillor, conducted an environmental scan that exposed several long-standing challenges in Ward 29. Residents highlighted broken access roads, housing backlogs, unreliable water supply, and growing safety concerns. They also pointed to poor network connectivity, which continues to restrict communication and economic activity.
During the meeting, the Municipality outlined its response plan alongside sector departments. Each department presented short-term and long-term steps to stabilise services and improve living conditions across the ward.
Official Response
Municipal representatives stressed that collaboration with Traditional Authorities remains essential for effective development. They committed to improving coordination and fast-tracking interventions in areas identified as high priority.
“We must work with our Traditional Leaders to solve these issues and restore confidence in governance. Residents deserve services that are consistent and reliable,” an official said during the briefing.
Sector departments also pledged technical support to address water shortages, tackle crime hotspots, and upgrade vulnerable road networks.
Community Impact
The renewed partnership offers hope for Ward 29 residents, who have long called for urgent action. Improved roads, safer communities, and stable water supply are expected to boost day-to-day life and support local economic activity. Traditional Leaders welcomed the commitments, saying the process must now translate into visible progress on the ground.
