The Chief Editor of the Eastern Cape Women’s Magazine Pamela Timakwe has taken it upon her hands to change the hostile situation faced by the Mabaso family from Ngcingane location under ward 16 at King Sabatha Dalindyebo Municipality (KSD).
“I developed a theme after the disaster that shook parts of the King Sabatha Dalindyebo Municipality and left many homeless. I then found that there were many factors that negatively affected women such as poverty and lack of information”, said Pamela Timakwe the chief editor of the Eastern Cape women’s magazine.
During her research this year, Timakhwe met the needy Mabaso family at Ncingane village.
The Mabaso’s are a family of nine with six unemployed adults and three school children.
“We are all unemployed, and we depend on the child support grand of these three children. Our mother and father passed away in 2014 and 2015 respectively,’ said Khululwa Mabaso.
The Mabaso family was given a temporary structure by a ward councillor back in 2012 which got destroyed in a natural disaster in 2019, and that left them homeless. They have been living in their neighbour’s rondavel, since then.
After seeing the unpleasant situation Pamela Timakwe started a project to help build a house for this family. With the help of other stakeholders, she managed to build a 6 roomed house. She then approached Tyelovuyo security company which took two family members and offered to train them to be security guards.
