On 20 October 2025, the King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality has strongly condemned recent unlawful activities in its area and warned residents against falling victim to job-related scams. The statement follows an incident near Grosvenor, where a suspect resisted arrest, injuring law enforcement officers and damaging a municipal vehicle.
What Happened
The incident occurred over the weekend when municipal law enforcement attempted to make an arrest. The suspect resisted, resulting in injuries to officers and damage to a Toyota Quantum belonging to the municipality. KSD officials said the act reflects an ongoing challenge of individuals engaging in criminal behaviour aimed at undermining the municipality’s reputation and public safety.
Official Response
Municipal Manager Mr. N. Pakade reaffirmed KSD’s commitment to enforcing by-laws and protecting its people. “We will not tolerate any criminal acts or interference with municipal operations,” he said. The municipality also issued a strong warning about a growing scam where fraudsters deceive job seekers by claiming to offer permanent employment at KSD in exchange for payments of up to R4,000.
“KSD Municipality does not sell jobs,” said Sonwabo Mapompza, Communications Practitioner.
“All legitimate vacancies are advertised on official social media platforms, notice boards, and in the media.”
Community Impact
The municipality urged the public to comply with local by-laws, report suspicious activity, and avoid paying for job offers. The awareness drive also seeks to rebuild trust between the municipality, businesses, and the community. Residents welcomed the municipality’s firm stance, saying it protects both public safety and employment integrity within Mthatha and surrounding areas.
