In response to escalating lawlessness in and around town, the KSD Municipality has introduced a groundbreaking solution—the Traffic Fine Collection Bus. The official launch ceremony took place on Friday at Freedom Square, near Munitata Building.
During the event, Municipal Manager Mr. Ngamela Pakade delivered a resolute message, urging community members to respect and adhere to road rules. He emphasized the Municipality’s commitment to aggressive ticket collection as a means of restoring law and order. Mr. Pakade highlighted that the Municipality wholly owns the bus and its integrated system, unlike previous arrangements. He underscored the bus’s role in revenue enhancement.
The innovative Roadblock System, installed by Truvelo Africa, empowers authorized cashiers to access outstanding traffic fines efficiently. Equipped with a license plate recognition camera, the system notifies operators of vehicles with outstanding fines.
Executive Mayor Cllr. Nyaniso Nelani, delivering the keynote address, announced the Municipality’s plans to acquire a parking system, aiming to eliminate double parking in town. He expressed optimism about KSD’s transformation into a Metro, citing the Safer City Programme’s success in Gqeberha and its upcoming implementation in KSD. The Mayor welcomed the new initiative, signaling its potential impact on the Municipality’s safety and law enforcement.
Representing the business sector, Mr. V. Ntlabathi praised the Municipality’s efforts, emphasizing the positive implications for both citizens and businesses. The launch concluded with a roadblock at Emaweleni near Qweqwe village, symbolizing the Municipality’s proactive stance against criminal activities.
