The King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC), led by Councillor Makhosandile Majeke, has embarked on a week-long oversight visit across several wards to monitor progress on key service delivery projects for the 2024/2025 financial year. The programme aims to reinforce transparency, accountability, and efficiency in municipal operations.

What Happened

The KSD MPAC oversight team began its visits this week, inspecting roads, housing developments, and local economic initiatives in wards across Mqanduli and Coffee Bay.
Officials from departments including Technical Services, Rural Economic Development, and Human Settlements joined the committee to verify that projects are progressing according to plan.

Among the sites visited were:

  • Ward 24 – Mapuzi and Mathokazini re-gravelling projects, and cooperatives in Lower Nanga and Mthaleni (Mqanduli).
  • Ward 21 – Nkalalo and Nkwenxurha cooperatives.
  • Ward 27 – Willow Housing Project and Mjelo Spaza Shops Project.
  • Ward 22 – Mahlungulu Housing Project.
  • Ward 23 – Gengqe Road balding and re-gravelling.

“We are on the ground to ensure that service delivery projects are implemented effectively and that communities benefit as planned,” said MPAC Chairperson Councillor Makhosandile Majeke.

The inspections form part of the municipality’s broader effort to strengthen financial accountability and ensure that every cent of the public budget is spent efficiently.

Official Response

Councilor Majeke praised municipal teams for their commitment and encouraged continued collaboration to meet project timelines.
He stressed that the oversight visits are not punitive but designed to promote transparency and identify gaps early in project delivery.

“These visits help us verify progress, ensure compliance, and build community trust through visible accountability,” he added.

Municipal officials accompanying the MPAC noted that feedback gathered from the field would inform upcoming council reports and guide the next phase of infrastructure planning.

Community Impact

Local communities in the visited wards expressed appreciation for the committee’s visibility and engagement.
For residents, seeing leadership on the ground provided reassurance that service delivery promises are being taken seriously.

A cooperative member in Ward 24 said the committee’s visit demonstrated “real commitment to community upliftment and economic inclusion.”

By strengthening monitoring and evaluation, KSD Municipality aims to boost the quality of services and ensure that development projects deliver tangible benefits — from improved road access to housing delivery and small business support.
