The King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Municipality’s Human Settlements and Planning Department concluded its Strategic Planning Session on 11 November 2025 in Mthatha. The session emphasized key strategies to improve urban development, environmental management, and the role of traditional authorities in sustainable land use.
What Happened
The session explored two major focus areas, strengthening urban development through effective bylaws and addressing challenges linked to unplanned settlements and environmental degradation. Officials emphasised that improved town planning and building control could enhance property value, municipal aesthetics, and revenue generation.
Further discussions examined the role of traditional authorities in land demarcation and riverbank development, particularly in curbing environmental damage and disaster risks caused by informal expansion.
Official Response
In her closing remarks, MMC for Human Settlements and Planning, Councillor N. Sibeko, thanked participants for their valuable contributions. “We appreciate the robust engagement and ideas shared. The municipality looks forward to implementing these strategies to drive sustainable development across the KSD area,” said Councillor Sibeko.
Community Impact
The outcomes of the session are expected to strengthen collaboration between municipal departments and traditional leaders while ensuring safer, well-planned, and sustainable human settlements. The initiatives discussed aim to promote resilience, protect the environment, and enhance service delivery in local communities.
