King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality, in partnership with OR Tambo District Municipality and the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), handed over 20 Temporary Residential Units (TRUs) and essential household relief items to flood-affected families at Maydene Farm. The initiative, held on 29 October 2025, celebrates a major step in restoring dignity and rebuilding lives after months of displacement.

What Happened?

The humanitarian handover brought joy and relief to families who had lost their homes during floods. The 20 new TRUs provide safe, temporary shelter, while distributed household essentials, including beds, curtains, stoves, cookware, cupboards, groceries, and school uniforms for 150 children, aim to help families rebuild their lives with stability and dignity.

KSD Municipality and its partners emphasized that the project demonstrates the government’s ongoing commitment to rebuilding communities through collaboration and compassion.

Councilor Majeke praised the joint efforts of OR Tambo District Municipality, KSD Municipality, and DBSA, noting that teamwork and dedication have been crucial to the project’s success.

He extended heartfelt appreciation to all Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that have supported the flood recovery efforts, including the Live Mabeqa Foundation, Betusile Mcinga Foundation, Abongile Mangala Initiative, and Meals on Wheels, among others. Each was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for their consistent humanitarian contributions.

“This partnership proves that when we work together, we rebuild stronger,” Majeke added.

Community Impact

For many residents, the handover brought renewed hope and emotional relief after months of hardship. Parents expressed joy at receiving school uniforms and household goods, while children smiled as they explored their new homes.

The initiative also highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing disaster recovery and social welfare challenges.
