The Mayoral Committee met on 26 November 2025 at the City offices to review reports from all directorates. Members examined key findings, raised concerns about delays and emphasized issues affecting several communities. The discussion focused on the steps needed to resolve health risks, improve timelines and ensure fair allocation of resources.
What Happened
The Speaker raised concern about inconsistencies between verbal explanations and details found in official reports. They noted that repeated requests for more staff point to a real human-capacity shortage that still needs attention.
Members also questioned the project timeline. They asked when tender processes or negotiations would begin and stressed the importance of fair resource allocation. They said communities with the greatest needs should receive priority.
Another section of the report stressed health risks. Residents had raised serious concerns about hazardous conditions affecting their wellbeing, and the committee emphasized this as a critical issue.
Official Response
During a recent site visit, the City Manager issued several urgent directives. These include installing proper signage, ensuring access to water and completing requirements for site closure.
Although the budget carryover process is still being finalised, the municipality has already approved and uploaded the development budget. Officials said the project will move forward once they receive final authorization.
The administration also confirmed a review of EPWP deployment with Public Health and ESRA. They will install new signage, remove some fencing to improve access, and issue further operational instructions.
Community Impact
Work began shortly after the site visit. Officials asked the committee to identify the next areas that should be prioritized.
Residents affected by delays, health risks and service backlogs are expected to benefit once these directives take effect. Leaders said the priority areas will focus on safety, accessibility and fair distribution of municipal resources.
