Kaizer Chiefs have officially unveiled Lebohang Maboe as their latest signing, marking a significant return for the seasoned midfielder to the club where his football journey began. The move, announced on Tuesday, makes Maboe the tenth addition to Amakhosi’s squad this season.
The 30-year-old, who once featured in Chiefs’ youth development setup, returns to Naturena after impressive spells with SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Maritzburg United. His experience in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) is bolstered by multiple domestic trophies and 13 caps for the national team, Bafana Bafana.
“We know Lebo is a quality player who has gained valuable experience in continental competitions over the past few years,” said Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. “His expertise will be crucial for us in both the domestic league and the CAF Confederation Cup. We’re pleased to welcome him back to Amakhosi. He was here and knows the culture and what our supporters expect from our players.”
The signing is seen as a strategic move for a club seeking to rebuild under new technical leadership and improve their standings both locally and on the continent. Maboe’s ability to play across various midfield roles is expected to bring versatility and leadership to the Chiefs’ engine room.
Amakhosi fans have long called for more experienced, battle-tested players—Maboe’s return could be the answer as the team chases silverware after a lengthy trophy drought.
