Kaizer Chiefs have advanced into the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup after a convincing 3-0 victory over Chippa United at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.
Goals from Gaston Sirino, Inacio Miguel, and Pule Mmodi sealed the win for the Amakhosi, who joined SuperSport United, Stellenbosch FC, Durban City, Orlando Pirates, and Marumo Gallants in the next round.
The win marks Chiefs’ fourth victory from six matches across all competitions and is a promising sign of improvement under coach Nasreddine Nabi. With their trophy drought nearing an 11th year, Chiefs are under pressure to triumph in the Nedbank Cup.
Chiefs dominated the early stages of the game, with Makabi Lilepo’s shot flashing wide of the mark before Sirino opened the scoring in the 13th minute. The Amakhosi’s lead was doubled in the 77th minute when Miguel confidently dispatched a penalty kick.
Chippa United introduced veteran midfielder Andile Jali at the start of the second half but were unable to build on the attacking pressure they enjoyed prior to the interval. Chiefs added a third goal late on, with Mmodi stabbing home from close range after goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali parried a low drive from Ranga Chivavairo.
The two teams will next be in action in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday, February 18, with Chiefs hosting SuperSport United and Chippa away to Cape Town City.
