Kaizer Chiefs Chairman Pays Tribute to Club Legend Bull Lehoko

Kaizer Chiefs Chairman Dr. Kaizer Motaung has paid a heartfelt tribute to one of the club’s most respected legends, Johannes “Bull” Lehoko, describing him as a true gentleman of the game and a vital pillar in the club’s early history. Lehoko passed away on 12 April 2025 at the age of 71, leaving behind a powerful legacy in South African football.

In an official statement published on the club’s website, Dr. Motaung reflected on Lehoko’s pivotal role in shaping Kaizer Chiefs during the 1970s and 1980s, both on and off the pitch.

“Bull Lehoko was more than a player—he was a brother, a leader, and a true servant of football,” said Motaung. “He embodied the values of discipline, humility, and excellence. We will forever be grateful for his contribution to the club and South African football at large.”

Lehoko joined Kaizer Chiefs in 1975 and quickly established himself as a commanding presence in defence, earning admiration for his work ethic and consistency. He was known for his calm demeanour and ability to read the game, earning the nickname “Bull” for his strength and reliability at the back.

Following his playing career, Lehoko remained close to the club, serving as a mentor and advisor. He was also a key figure in football development, sharing his knowledge with younger generations and contributing to the growth of the sport nationally.

His passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from former players, supporters, and football officials, all recognising Lehoko’s enduring impact. Kaizer Chiefs confirmed that memorial details will be shared with the public in due course, and the club will honour his legacy in upcoming fixtures.

“His love for the game and the Amakhosi family never faded,” added Motaung. “He leaves a lasting impression on all of us.”
