The community is still seeking justice for Refiloe “Thumeka” Thunkga, a young mother of two who was brutally murdered by her boyfriend in June 2024. Thumeka’s body was found with 36 stab wounds and an axe wound to the head, leaving her family and neighbors in shock.
The suspect, who has been arrested and is currently on trial, allegedly committed the heinous crime out of jealousy over Thumeka’s relationship with the father of her children. Despite being spotted at a local tavern after the murder, the suspect was apprehended in Burgersdorp with the help of social media.
However, the case has been marred by delays, with the suspect appearing in court only twice due to a lack of legal representation. The latest postponement occurred on September 5, 2024, due to a power outage at the Sterkspruit court, pushing the trial date to October 22, 2024.
Thumeka’s family and community are growing increasingly frustrated with the slow pace of justice, demanding that the suspect be held accountable for his brutal actions. As the trial date approaches, they will be watching closely to ensure that justice is finally served for the young mother whose life was tragically cut short.
